IIM-C, XLRI record 100% placements for batch 2018

The negative perceptions and criticisms about the job scenario notwithstanding, two of the eastern India’s most premier business schools witnessed 100 or more than 100 per cent placements during the final placement sessions at the two institutes.

IIM Calcutta, which has completed the final placement process for the 2018 batch, witnessed 100 per cent placement in just two days, with over 130 companies offering jobs across diverse sectors.

The Xavier School of Management’s (XLRI) flagship programme, two-year postgraduate diploma in management (HRM and BM) for 2016-18, also witnessed 100 per cent placement in just 3.5 days. All 358 candidates secured offers through the final recruitment process.

At IIM-C, 481 offers were made. Of this, 50 per cent were from the finance and consulting sectors. Consulting stood as the top recruiter covering 27 per cent of the total batch with Accenture Strategy being the top recruiter followed by The Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company, McKinsey & Company and AT Kearney.

At XLRI Jamshedpur, the recently process saw participation from 132 companies, of them 29 first-time recruiters, with 370 offers.

“This has been a good year for both of summer as well as final recruitments. We are grateful to all recruiters for showing belief in the XLRI brand and our students. We are hoping that our relationship with recruiters will go from strength to strength and would be fruitful for all parties involved,” said Uday Da?m?o?daran, chairperson (placements), XLRI. At XLRI, the median salary offered was Rs 21 lakh per annum with average pay being Rs 20.1 lakh per annum.

An IIM-C official said it had been a successful final placement season where finance companies contributed to 23 per cent of offers with major recruiters being JP Morgan & Co, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Bessemer Venture Partners, Goldman Sachs, CitiBank, Credit Suisse and IVFA.  Bessemer Venture Partners visited IIM Calcutta for the first time.

Other major sectors included marketing (16 per cent), general management (14 per cent), product management & operations (12 per cent) and IT &Analytics (8 per cent). Amazon, Aditya Birla Group, Star and EXL were the top recruiters in product management & operations, general management, marketing and IT & analytics respectively.
