Toyota recalls 23,157 units of Corolla Altis

Toyota-Kirloskar Motor is recalling 23,157 units of Corolla Altis sedan in India to rectify and replace its faulty airbags, as part of the ongoing recall of 2.9 million vehicles globally by its Japanese parent company Toyota Motor.
The airbags were manufactured by Takata, a Japanese auto component maker, and supplied to Toyota brand. The firm also supplies airbags to many car brands across the globe.

Samsung has bagged the top position as the most trusted consumer durable brand of 2017, while the mobile phone brand has seen a deep dive down to 156 rank from leadership spot after Note 7 fracas. Apple on the other hand has climbed to fourth position, riding on the accessibility factor – with better financing schemes.
Patanjali in three years has climbed significantly from 576 rank to 15th position. Reliance Jio, within one year of launch, has climbed to 19th rank.

Tesla overtakes giant Ford in market cap

Tesla on Monday became the second-largest US car maker in terms of market capitalisation, displacing Ford, whose sales lagged amid concerns about the ability of the US market to keep growing.
Many major auto makers reported US sales declines in March compared to a year ago, but Tesla over the weekend said it saw a huge jump in vehicles delivered to consumers in the first three months of the year.
That was enough to send the electric car maker's stock soaring on Monday, even as investors punished major car brands for reporting lower-than-expected March sales.

Clearing BS-III stocks to cost automakers Rs 3,000 crore

Commercial vehicle makers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra and Mahindra and VE Commercial Vehicles, are among the worst-affected automobile majors incurring a cost of Rs 2,500 crore to liquidate the unsold BS-III stock of trucks and buses.
Two-wheeler makers Hero MotorCorp, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters, together commanding 75 per cent of the BS-III inventory of the industry, took a major hit out of the Rs 480 crore loss in clearing the stock.

Toyota, Tata Motors race ahead of others in March

Car manufacturers led by market leader Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, the second biggest car maker by sales, reported a healthy sales growth momentum in March, thanks to new models and recovery from the demonetisation effect.
But the biggest gainers in March were Toyota-Kirloskar Motor and Tata Motors. Toyota’s sales rose 81 per cent to 13,796 cars, driven by the new SUV models Innova Crysta and Fortuner, up from 7,637 units sold in the same month last year.

BS-III ban triggers big vehicle discounts

With the Supreme Court imposing a ban on sales and registration of vehicles not conforming to Bharat Stage IV fuel emission norms from April 1, manufacturers and 20,000 dealers across the country are making last ditch efforts, offering massive discounts to clear stocks of BS-III vehicles.
The court ruling stated that no non-BS-IV vehicles might be sold post-March 31. However, such vehicles can be registered later provided there is proof that the vehicles were bought on or before March 31.

India privately took Amazon to task over flag doormat

India’s reaction to an Amazon.com website selling doormats resembling the Tricolour involved an unprecedented public and private offensive against the US company by prime minister Narendra Modi’s government, a document shows.
Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj publicly threatened in January to rescind visas of Amazon employees if the doormats were not removed from its Canadian website.
But a document seen by Reuters shows the government went even further in private, asking its US and Canadian embassies to raise the matter “strongly” with Amazon’s senior leadership.

Tata Motors unveils Tigor to take on Swift Dzire

In its bid to claw back both the wallet share as well as mindshare, Tata Motors on Wednesday launched its first compact sedan in a decade under the Tigor label with petrol and diesel options and with attractive pricing beginning at Rs 4.7 lakh.
The 1.2 litre petrol model in four variants comes in a price range of Rs 4.7 lakh to Rs 6.19 lakh, while the 1.05 litre diesel engine mounted model again in four variants start at Rs 5.6 lakh to Rs 7.09 lakh in Delhi.
