Sino-India ties actively moving forward: President Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday said Sino-India relations are "actively" moving forward with deepening mutual trust and cooperation, as the foreign ministers of the two countries held extensive talks in New Delhi under a newly established framework.

In his message of congratulations to the first meeting of 'High Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges' being held in New Delhi, Xi said China and India are both ancient civilisations boasting long history and splendid culture.

China hopes for trade war solution at G20 Xi-Trump talks

China said Friday it hopes US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping can find a solution to the trade war when they meet at the G20 summit next week.

The talks in Argentina come as the two countries have failed to reach any agreement to resolve a dispute that escalated after Trump slapped huge tariffs on Chinese goods, prompting tit-for-tat responses.

China to sell 48 high-end armed drones to Pakistan

China will sell 48 high-end armed drones to its “all-weather ally” Pakistan in what a military observer said will be the largest deal of its kind. The cost of the major defence deal was not revealed.

Wing Loong II is a high-end reconnaissance, strike and multi-role endurance unmanned aerial system, capable of being fitted with air-to-surface weapons.  It is roughly equivalent to the American MQ-9 Reaper drone.  The drones will also be jointly manufactured by China and Pakistan, state-run Global Times reported.

China manufacturing slows as trade war rages

Chinese factory activity slowed in September, official data showed on Sunday, as the Asian giant’s trade war with the United States showed no sign of abating.

The purchasing managers' index (PMI), a key gauge of factory conditions, came in at 50.8 for the month, down from 51.3 in August, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

The figure was below the 51.2 reading tipped in a Bloomberg News survey of economists. Although the numbers indicated a slowdown, they remained above the 50-point mark that separates expansion from contraction.

China urges 'stability' in Maldives after opposition wins

China on Tuesday called for “continuity and stability” in the Maldives after Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the leader of an opposition that has vowed to review Chinese projects, defeated incumbent president Abdulla Yameen in a weekend election.

China and India are going head-to-head for influence in the Indian Ocean nation, a string of palm-fringed islands and atolls 325 miles (523 km) southwest of India’s southern tip.

China threatens new tariffs on $60 bn worth of US goods

Beijing warned today it was prepared to impose new tariffs on 60 billion worth of US goods if Washington ups the ante in the escalating US-China trade war.

The commerce ministry issued a statement saying the new duties would be applied if Washington pulled the trigger on President Donald Trump's threat to raise tariffs on 200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

The statement said China reserves the right to apply "other countermeasures".

UN should play its part on Kashmir issue: Pak PM tells Sec Gen

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi today met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in China and urged the world body to play its part in stopping "Indian atrocities" in Kashmir and accused New Delhi of "unprovoked ceasefire violations", which he warned can dangerously escalate the situation along the LoC.

According to an official statement from the Pakistan Prime Minister's Office, Abbasi met Guterres on the sidelines of BOAO Forum for Asia being held in the southern Chinese city of Boao.

Pakistan and China are "iron brothers" and their friendship is the bedrock of strategic stability in "our region", Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said today.

Addressing the BOAO Forum for Asia being held in the southern Chinese city of Boao, he praised the USD 50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which he said is fast reaching fruition.
