Tech giants, e-commerce biggies and consultancy majors were among the companies, which started the placement sessions at different Indian Institutes of Technology.
In the first session on Saturday, IIT Madras saw 19 companies, including Microsoft, Google, Apple, Airbus, McKinsey, The Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Co, making 85 offers, including 6 international ones. Uber, Rubrik, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Auctus Advisors and Qualcomm also were among the companies that made offers. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) too recruited four and three candidates, respectively, apart from the 85. Bain and Company and Nutanix Technologies were first time recruiters.
Microsoft gave the highest number of offers — 25 for three profiles. The other large recruiters were Goldman Sachs (7) and Apple (8).
More than 1,300 students are registered for placement this year from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Over 490 profiles from nearly 326 companies are planning to visit the campus in the first phase of placements that will last till December 8.
“We had premier companies in the first slot, which made a good number of offers to our candidates. The number of finance/analytics offers has been excellent in the first slot, with 29 offers being made by such firms. With high profile recruiters scheduled in the next slot, we hope to improve on our Day 1 numbers as compared to last year,” said Manu Santhanam, advisor, training and placement, IIT Madras.
Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, started the placement season for 2018-19 with 215 offers received from 10 companies. The institute also received 7 international offers. Microsoft tendered maximum 22 offers, including 3 international offers and 9 PPOs. The highest salary in the domestic market was Rs 47 lakh, while the best international package offered was Rs 1.5 crore.
Companies which participated in the first session included Goldman Sachs Services, Google, JPMorgan Chase & Co - Quantitative Research, Microsoft, Nutanix Technologies, Tower Research Capital India and Uber India Systems. The Phase 1 of campus recruitment for 2018-19 will be held between December 1 and December 15. A total of 1,354 students have registered for placements across departments this year.
IIT Hyderabad received 14 offers from three companies in the first session. These offers were made to the students of electrical, computer science and design departments. The institute also received four international offers from companies like Works Applications, SMS Datatech, Softbank, Mercari, Toyota Research, Toshiba INC, TSMC (Taiwan semicondcutors) and Yokogawa Electric Corporation. For the Phase 1 of campus recruitment for 2018-19 held between December 1 and 22, 130 companies and 418 students have registered. “We are witnessing increased participation from Japanese companies. As a result of our collaboration with Japan, around 14 companies are visiting this season to hire students,” said Amit Acharyya, acting faculty-in-charge of placements, IIT Hyderabad.
