Tata Motors-owned British luxury sports car maker Jaguar Land Rover on Monday launched a special edition of its Jaguar XJ model called XJ50 to celebrate five decades of the XJ being on sale globally. Bookings for the company’s flagship luxury saloon are now open in India.
The Jaguar XJ50, which measures over 5.2 metre in length, is one of the longest saloons on sale in the country. With a price tag of Rs 1.11 crore in India, the range-topping Jaguar sedan rivals flagship models from Germany’s big three brands such as the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8.
The XJ50 gets aesthetic updates over the standard model, which includes autobiography-style front and rear bumpers. Along with the bumpers, it has new 19-inch wheels, a chrome radiator grille with chrome surround and unique badging on the rear and side vents. Colour options include Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.
“The Jaguar XJ has always been the epitome of Jaguar’s focus on luxury and excellence. With the XJ50, we have raised the bar once again, paying homage to one of the world’s most stylish sporting saloons,” said Rohit Suri, president and MD at Jaguar Land Rover India.
The insides of the sedan also received updates, with the cabin now getting diamond-quilted seats and an XJ50 logo on the centre armrest. Also differentiating the special edition car is the XJ50-badged illuminated treadplates, anodized gearshift paddles and bright metal pedals.
Available in the long-wheelbase guise, the XJ50 is powered by a 306hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. The motor produces 306 PS of power and 689 Nm of peak torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. And while these numbers would not matter to most buyers, the XJ50 can reach 250 kmph and does 0-100 kmph in 6.2 seconds.
The Jaguar range in India includes XE starting at Rs 39.73 lakh, XF at Rs 49.58 lakh, F-PACE at Rs 63.17 lakh, XJ at Rs 102.58 lakh and F-TYPE at Rs 90.93 lakh. All prices at pan India showroom.
