e-tailers make gains
E-commerce firms saw an average 165 per cent rise in orders received during the pre-GST sales period, when they were offering 40-80 per cent discounts, against normal days.
Retailers were clearing old stocks before the July 1 onset on GST to avoid higher tax incidence. The average order value rose by 24 per cent during this period, finds a study by Cashkaro.
While top retailers had eye-popping sales lined up, Myntra, Nykaa, Jabong and Flipkart served the most significant discounts. Adding to it, cashback providers were also offering added rebates.
Flipkart and Nykaa saw 105 per cent and 250 per cent increase in number of orders placed via CashKaro, respectively. Myntra witnessed 276 per cent increase in sessions, while Jabong and Amazon saw over 100 per cent increase in clicks from CashKaro.
“The pre-GST sale period was no less than pre-Diwali season. While end-of-season sales coincided with GST rollout, a shopping frenzy gripped everyone given the uncertainty in prices after GST. All top retailers unveiled a bevy of offers to entice shoppers, including those who do not usually offer discounts,” Rohan Bhargava, co-founder, CashKaro.com said.
In different categories of products, mobiles and electronics accounted for 25 per cent, fashion 23 per cent, large appliances 20 per cent, health & beauty 17 per cent and grocery 15 per cent.
