Skoda launches new Octavia
The new sedan will have prices starting at Rs 15.49 lakh
Czech automobile manufacturer, Skoda on Thursday launched the new Octavia facelift in India with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 15.49 lakh. Octavia is available in petrol and diesel engine options and has been priced below the outgoing model by about Rs 7,000. The New Octavia is now available in four colour options – Candy White, Magic Black, Quartz Grey and Brilliant Silver.
Talking about the new Octavia, Ashutosh Dixit, Director, Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda India, said, “The Octavia changed the dynamics of the executive sedan segment, when it was introduced in India. The new Octavia is offered in 1.4-litre, 1.8-litre TSI petrol engines, and 2.0-litre TDI which are capable of producing a maximum power of 140 Ps/250Nm of torque, 180Ps/250Nm of torque and 148PS/ 320Nm of torque, respectively. The smaller petrol version of Octavia is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox whereas its bigger petrol and diesel engine is available with a 7-speed DSG and a 6-speed DSG, respectively. It takes the Octavia 8.4 seconds to zoom 0 to 100 km/h, reaches a top speed of 218 km/h and on average consumes 21 kmpl.
The biggest change in the Octavia is the headlamps, which are now being offered in a split set up. The lights comprise of LEDs that can adapt to the surrounding depending on the amount of light available and the amount of light required. Other areas where Skoda has worked on the car are the bonnet which sees a couple of new creases, a chrome strip on the lower side of the front bumper, new alloys and redesigned tail lamps.
On the inside, the Octavia now comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a MirrorLink-enabled touchscreen infotainment system. The aircon controls are also new. Passengers in the rear seat of the Octavia can control music and aircon controls through an app on their phones. The base model of the Octavia comes with four airbags while the top-of-the-line trim gets eight airbags. The Octavia also gets hands-free parallel parking and multi-collision braking avoidance. The Skoda Octavia competes with the Toyota Corolla Altis and Hyundai Elantra in the market.
Octavia is the first of four products Skoda has lined up for launch in India this year. The company has grown volumes by 15 per cent in the first six months of the year and expects the pace to triple in the second half.
