Japanese motorcycle giant Kawasaki has launched its two dirt bikes or motocross to expand its off-road motorcycle portfolio in Asia’s third biggest economy.
The company has introduced the new KX100 and KX250 motorcycles with a respective price band of Rs 4.69 lakh and Rs 7.14 lakh at New Delhi showroom.
“These are imported from its factory in Japan and they are USA specification models,” a company official told Financial Chronicle.
These new machines would be retailed through its 12 exclusive Kawasaki showrooms across the country. These new offerings from Kawasaki would excite enthusiasts in India, who like to go off-road only on two wheels.
Interestingly, there are no on-road costs as these motorcycles are meant for off-roading and are not road legal in the country. In other words, the buyer does not have to pay any taxes on the above-mentioned prices of the bikes. You will have to incur shipping and handling charges depending upon where you live.
The 2017 model year Kawasaki KX100 draws its power from a 100cc, two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine. The prime highlight of this motorcycle is the six-way adjustable handlebar, which means that the handlebar can be adjusted in six different ways to suit the needs and requirements of the rider. The suspension system in the Kawasaki KX100 comprises of inverted forks at the front along with a mono shock absorber at the rear.
The 2017 model year Kawasaki KX250 motorcycle is powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that has been linked to a five-speed transmission. The motorcycle handles the hurdles with ease as it comes assisted with 48mm Showa separate function forks upfront along with an adjustable monoshock at the rear.
The company said these two bikes are aimed at both the amateur and professional levels as Kawasaki has long been the dominant brand in mini-motocrossing, with many of today’s top professional riders getting their start on KX minicrossers.
Kawasaki created the KX brand 40 years ago to put mid-level to expert riders on the top step of the podium. These new machines feature significantly boosted engine and chassis performance, improved ergonomics care of all-new flush-fit bodywork, new seat and adjustable handle position.
“With this KX model, pushing to the front of the pack has never been so easy or so much fun,” the company said in a statement.
The Kawasaki KX250, on the other hand, is the single-most dominant motocross bike of the last decade, it said. To keep riders on the podium, Kawasaki has now introduced an all-new KX250 for 2017. The model offers a more powerful engine, a significantly lighter chassis, and slimmer ergonomics, making this new model the fastest KX250 motorcycle yet, the company boasted.
The Pune-based India Kawasaki Motors, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, sells a range of seven superbike models (above 800 cc engine) such as Ninja H2 (Rs 20 lakh), Ninja ZX-14R (Rs 16.8 lakh), ZX-10R SP (Rs 15.8 lakh), Ninja1000 (Rs 15.8 lakh), Versys1000 (Rs 12.84 lakh), Z1000 (Rs 12.45 lakh), and Z800 (Rs 7.5 lakh) and to give its rivals a run for their money.
