Women on top

Dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won three prizes at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards on Sunday in a ceremony marked by women and their stories amid the sexual misconduct scandal that has swept Hollywood. The Fox Searchlight film about a furious woman seeking justice for the murder of her daughter was named best ensemble, the top SAG honour.

Frances McDormand won best actress and Sam Rockwell took home the best supporting actor statuette for their roles in the film.

The year of women is here

One year later and with a renewed hope for equal rights for women and justice, Women’s March 2018 saw several Hollywood A-listers including Viola Davis, Natalie Portman, Adele and Olivia Munn in participation. Last year, women and men took to the streets of Washington DC, Los Angeles, New York and other cities, to show solidarity for women’s rights and refusal to attend US President Donald Trump’s inauguration, a day after he was sworn in as the 45th POTUS.

Virat Kohli dominated the ICC annual awards clinching both the cricketer and captain of the year honours — a much-expected windfall of accolades for his phenomenal run across formats. Kohli, who is currently leading India in an away Test series against South Africa, was named recipient of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year and also the ODI Cricketer of the Year. Besides he was picked the captain of both the ICC's Test and ODI teams of the year.

The showstopper

Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan will be the showstopper for fashion designer Anamika Khanna at Lakme Fashion Week Summer-Resort 2018. Khanna will bring down the curtains to the upcoming fashion week with her collection Reinventing Nudes. The designer, who has often dressed Bollywood celebrities, said choosing the actor was an easy choice. “For this one it’s simple, it’s Kareena Kapoor. She’s the face of Lakme,” says Khanna.

My daughter will be proud of a working mom

Rani Mukerji went through the usual anxiety of a mother when she started Hichki after Adira’s birth, but the actor is confident that her daughter will one day be proud of her working parents. The actor said more than her, it was her husband Aditya Chopra who wanted her to get back to the sets.

Portman to do Pale Blue Dot?

Natalie Portman is in negotiations to step in for Reese Witherspoon in the Pale Blue Dot. Witherspoon left the role last year due to scheduling conflicts. She is, however, still on board the project as a producer along with Bruna Papandrea, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie will be directed Noah Hawley from a script by Brian C Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. The film is about a married astronaut who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut.

Marvel hires Jac Schaeffer to pen potential Black Widow film

Beloved superhero character Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff might be getting her own solo film at Marvel.The studio has hired Jac Schaeffer to possibly pen the script for a standalone Black Widow film, reported Variety. The character is played by actor Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Film are not charity or NGO: Anurag Kashyap

Films loaded with social message may be the trend in the industry but Anurag Kashyap believes filmmakers should not be expected to deliver a message through their movies. The director, whose upcoming film “Mukkabaaz” promotes sports in its own way, said as a filmmaker his aim is never to address a social issue.
