Online ticketing GBV falls in Q3

In the absence of a blockbuster like Baahubali, online ticketing companies have seen a drop in gross booking value (GBV) in the September quarter. Both revenues and volumes dropped despite the start of the festive season.

The GBV dropped to $419 million in September quarter from $422 million in June quarter. The ticketing volumes fell 15 per cent, while the revenues of booking intermediaries fell 8 per cent, slightly more than the GBV.

This one takes the cake

A 36-year-old slice cut from the multi-tiered wedding cake served at the royal wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in 1981 is up for auction in the US. The piece of fruitcake, housed in a special box marked on the cover, “CD, Buckingham Palace, 29th July 1981,” is expected to fetch $800.

Victoria’s Secret’s glitzy annual fashion show hit the stage in China for the first time on Monday, though without several of its “Angels” and star names who had been expected to attend, including model Gigi Hadid and pop singer Katy Perry.

At a packed Shanghai stadium, British singer Harry Styles opened a 45-minute show of singers, dancers and lighting theatrics — along with a line-up of models sporting the brand’s flamboyant and racy lingerie.

Katrina Kaif to be a special guest at IFFI

Katrina Kaif will be special guest at the closing ceremony of the 48th International Film Festival of India. This will be the 34-year-old actor’s maiden visit to the festival. “I look forward to being a part of IFFI 2017. This year is special because it will be my first visit there. I’m happy to be part of Asia’s oldest festival as it celebrates the future of cinema this year,” Katrina said in a statement. Superstar Salman Khan — also her co-star from Tiger Zinda Hai — will bring down the curtains on the festival on November 28.

Cult leader Charles Manson dies at 83

Charles Manson, the wild-eyed cult leader who orchestrated a string of gruesome killings in Southern California by his “family” of young followers, shattering the peace-and-love ethos of the late 1960s, died on Sunday, prison officials said. He was 83.

Manson died of natural causes Sunday evening at a Kern County hospital, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement. It gave no further details of the circumstances surrounding his death.

Photo released to mark 70th wedding anniversary of Britain’s queen

Buckingham Palace issued a new photographic portrait of Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip on Saturday to mark their upcoming 70th wedding anniversary. The couple married at London’s Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, just two years after the end of World War Two, in a lavish ceremony attended by statesmen and royalty from around the world. The portrait, taken earlier this month, showed the queen wearing the same dress which she chose for a service of thanksgiving to mark their diamond wedding anniversary held at the Abbey where they were married.

Victoria Beckham had volunteered to offer fashion advice to people strolling in the Central Park for two dollars. As a guest on Vanity Fair’s show Derek Does Stuff With a Friend, the former Spice Girl conversed with passerbys through an iPad video conference at a stand in the famous area, giving style tips to them.

Too much bakwaas in Bollywood

Rohit Shetty’s record inBollywood was impeccable — he made mass entertainers and was good at them. Whether it was an action film like Singham or the Golmaal comedy franchise, Shetty’s films routinely exasperated critics and delighted audiences. But with 2015’s Dilwale, a multi-starrer with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, Shetty faced his first big failure. The film didn’t do well at the box office and faced protests over Khan’s comments on intolerance in India. Almost two years later, Shetty says he has moved on.

With every film and character that she plays on-screen, it’s her obsession to get it perfect at a go and that makes Sridevi believe that she is a one-take actor. “I don’t remember doing more than one take for a film. I think the first take is best as you are spontaneous and after that it becomes a mechanical thing. I don’t believe in second take at all,” Sridevi says in an interview with PTI. For the Chaalbaaz actor it is the quality of a role that is of utmost importance to her.

Wah, Wonder Woman indeed

Gal Gadot has reportedly refused to sign the much-awaited sequel of Wonder Woman if Hollywood producer Brett Ratner, who has been accused of sexual harassment and homophobia, remains attached with the movie. An insider told Page Six that the 32-year-old star, who plays the title role in the Patty Jenkins-directed film, does not want the successful franchise to benefit a man accused of sexual misconduct.

Ratner’s production company RatPac-Dune Entertainment backed Wonder Woman as a part of its co-financing deal with Warner Bros studios.
