In a first of its kind, both prêt and couture came together on the same runway at the finale show of the Amazon India Fashion Week. Designers Rina Dhaka, Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, Ashish N Soni, Krishna Mehta and Pankaj and Nidhi presented their exclusive ‘See Now Buy Now’ festive collections. The show featured five capsule lines with six statement pieces, each offering eveningwear. Handcrafted in crisp silhouettes by Pankaj and Nidhi stood out while Ashish N Soni’s smart-formals in textured jacquards too were a hit.

BCCI seeks Sridhar''s replacement

The BCCI is seeking a new General Manager of Cricket Operations after M V Sridhar's departure and the applicant should either be a cricket expert or someone who has played at the highest level.

Sridhar stepped down last month after being under the scanner for alleged financial impropriety in his home association -- Hyderabad -- when he was heading the state body.

The BCCI invited applications for GM, Cricket Operations today with the deadline for submission being October 23.

When Harvey Weinstein wanted to meet Ash alone

It seems, once it starts, there’s no stopping the downpour. The latest Harvey Weinstein story involves India’s gift to the world, the one and only Aishwariya Rai. According to talent manager Simone Sheffield of Canyon Entertainment, who was representing Rai when, in 2003 or 2004, she and the actress were joined by Weinstein at a meeting. During the meeting in a hotel room, Sheffield says she felt strongly that should stay with Rai — who at the time was ‘new’ to America.

Sinuous, spunky and a riot of colours

Day one of the the FDCI Amazon India Fashion Week saw designer  JJ Valaya celebrating 25 wonderful years in the world of style and fashion. The show introduced the designer’s collection  of occasion-wear ensembles for the season. The line up feature  three of Valaya’s all time favourite inspiration Glisten, Jamavar and Punjab.  Glisten was a  homage to nature featuring  A-line of sinuous silhouettes, signature prints and antique embroideries.

Bachchan @ 75

Amitabh Bachchan turned 75 Wednesday, celebrating with his family in Maldives, while his colleagues and fans flooded social media platforms with congratulatory messages.

From prime minister Narendra Modi to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and old friends like Shatrughan Sinha and Rishi Kapoor, everyone greeted Bachchan on his birthday. “The affection of greeting for the 75th, displayed over several mediums, overwhelms me... a thank you shall never be enough," Bachchan tweeted.

Madhu Valli crowned Miss India Worldwide

Madhu Valli, an emerging hip hop artist and a student of criminal law at George Mason University in Virginia, has been crowned as Miss India Worldwide 2017. Stephanie Madavane from France was declared runner-up at the 26th edition of the beauty pageant held in New Jersey on Sunday. Sangeeta Bahadur from Guyana took the third spot at the pageant that had contestants from 18 countries. “I want to be the next biggest bridge between Bollywood and Hollywood,” Valli, 20, told PTI, a day after winning the pageant. Her latest album was released a day earlier.

Sindhu, Saina, Srikanth retained by old teams in PBL auction

Top Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal were retained by their respective franchises at the players auction of the Premier Badminton League (PBL) on Monday. Each retained player gets a 25 per cent hike in his/her salary from last year, while players who are bought by using the Right-To-Match card only get a 10 per cent increase from the last year’s selling price. Defending champions Chennai Smashers retained Olympic silver medallist Sindhu for Rs 48.75 lakh.

Trump is mad and could destroy humanity, says Che Guevara’s daughter

Legendary Cuban Communist revolutionary Che Guevara’s daughter fears that the “madness” of US President Donald Trump could “destroy” humanity. Dr Aleida Guevara March, Guevara’s eldest daughter who often acts as the family’s spokesperson, also accused the US of using war to crush the strength of peoples. “The man has so much power to destroy humanity, and we are part of that humanity. That is the problem. That he has the power, and no conscience,” Guevara told The Week in an interview in Havana, the capital of Cuba.

Bhansali has given me wings to fly

Gearing up for his next big release Padmavati, Ranveer Singh says director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has expanded his universe and “extracted” from him some of his most special performances. Singh plays Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the upcoming magnum opus, his third project with Bhansali after blockbusters Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
