Industrial growth is expected to decelerate sharply to 5 per cent in Q1 FY2020 from 9.8 per cent in Q1 FY2019.

According to Mercom’s India Solar Project Tracker, solar accounted for nearly 31.5 GW of the total installed capacity, representing 8.73 per cent of the total installed capacity at the end of June 2019.

The report said solar power generation in the country peaked in the summer months of March, April, and May of 2019 with over 4 BUs.

Going by the state-run Spices Board statistics, turmeric was grown in 2,24,260 hectare during 2017-18, with production of nearly 11,07,920 tonne, which was lower than the 2016-17 level of 2,48,050 hectare and 12,15,520 tonne.

On the pricing front, sector analysts expect the sharp reduction in Indian production in 2019/20 to start the recovery in prices. A very poor crop in Maharashtra, triggered by a poor monsoon in 2018 that reduced replanting, will start the process of firming domestic prices in India. Higher domestic prices will reduce the volume of exports onto the world market, experts felt.
